Rhema Christian School

Math Olympics

Each year a few select Rhema students participate in the ACSI Math Olympics.  Students compete with other children from other Christian schools in two key categories: Arithmatic Computation and Mathematical Reasoning.

The 2010 Math Olympics will be on Friday, March 12, at Eden's Mt. Nebo campus.

About the ACSI Math Olympics

The ACSI Math Olympics is available to ACSI member schools only. Students in grades 3-8 are eligible to participate in this event. The ACSI Math Olympics is a series of timed tests or rounds. Each student will compete against other students in his or her grade. The areas of competition include Arithmetic Computation and Mathematical Reasoning as explained below:

  • Arithmetic Computation: Problems will be of the paper/pencil computational variety (example: fundamental operations).
  • Mathematical Reasoning: These paper/pencil problems will be more difficult than the daily mathematical assignments of the student’s grade level. They involve more than one operation and/or concept and could require a high level of reasoning (example: story problems, patterns, puzzles).

Objectives of the ACSI Math Olympics are as follows:

  • to stimulate an interest in mathematics
  • to recognize the achievements of students in mathematics
  • to provide an opportunity to meet and fellowship with other mathematics-oriented students
  • to offer students an opportunity to glorify God in the use of their mathematical abilities beyond the classroom
