Raising up Godly leaders

Bailey Pretak is excited to be sharing her passion for music with the students at Rhema. She has a bachelor’s degree from Eastern University in Music, specializing in piano. At an early age, Bailey found a home on the stage. She comes to us with a wide variety of performance skills and musical abilities. Not only does she play piano and flute, but she has been involved in show choir, worship teams, musicals, accompanist jobs, and benefit concert tours. Her love for teaching began in high school when she taught dance classes at her local studio. She has since taught dance for over ten years - specializing in ballet, pointe, tap, and musical theatre.

Bailey’s favorite part of teaching at a Christian school is instilling in the students that their value and worth come from God alone. She grew up different because of her rare skin disorder (lamellar ichthyosis) and has learned how to overcome adversity in her life, like bullying, exclusion, and insecurity. Her salvation at age ten transformed her life as she began to grow in confidence and started to see herself through God’s eyes. Now, she has an insatiable passion to help her students discover that for themselves as well.

When Bailey is not at Rhema, you can find her spreading awareness for the ichthyosis community and redefining beauty. Uniquely YOU, her motivational speaking platform, has given her the opportunity to share the story of her journey from insecurity to confidence. She has been featured internationally through several articles (Yahoo Lifestyle, Allure, The Daily Mail), a documentary (part of the Shake My Beauty series), and most recently made her national TV debut on Dr. Oz! Her passions also include breaking down the barriers of the beauty industry by modeling and competing in beauty pageants. Bailey is glad to have been able to turn her pain into a purpose and she now serves on the Board of Directors for FIRST (Foundation for Ichthyosis & Related Skin Types), as well as being the co-founder of the Release the Butterfly Tour. She also plays keys with the worship team at her church, Northway Christian Community.

Bailey joined the Rhema family in 2019 and is looking forward to teaching music and library with some dance mixed in!

Psalm 139:14 - “I praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows it very well.”

When I was in seventh grade, God put a passion for music in my heart with the goal of one day being a band director and music educator.  After completing a Bachelor of Music Education degree at New England Conservatory (Boston, MA), I pursued situations where I could grow as a music educator including Music Director at summer camps, Krebs school for learning disabled children (Waltham, MA) and public schools in New York and Pennsylvania.  I concurrently earned a Master of Music in flute performance at Ithaca College (Ithaca, NY).  I love teaching and sharing music, building the students’ skill sets to be life-long learners, and that they can take ownership of the music we share and become leaders wherever they go.  As well as having taught at Rhema Christian School for fifteen years, I have been the chairperson for the ACSI Western Pennsylvania Band Festival for twelve years, and serve as Woodwind Coordinator and Chamber Group director for the Pittsburgh Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, and perform as principal flute with the Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra, and as choir director / parish musician for St. Alban’s Anglican Church.  God has richly blessed me, and whether in the classroom with beginning musicians or on stage myself, “I can do all things through Christ, Who strengthens me.”
